One night, I woke in a dream – The moon cast a spotlight on my open window Which let the breeze move through my gossamer gown And chill skin of my limbs. Leaning out, the moonlight revealed a carriage Pulled by horses darker than shadow. The coachman sat, staring up at my window, His void-like eyes calling up to me. Rushing down the stairs, I felt a new vitality And it was not dashed when I saw his hands were bones. His face was a skull, and I could only surmise he was a reaper Come to take me – I climbed in anyway. Suddenly, he sat next to me, smiling, and the carriage pulled off. Who pulls the carriage, then? And where are we going?
