How do I stop time—  

Stop the sand from slipping  

through my fingers?  

To pick the grains from midair  

putting them back in my hands  

where they are safe.  

The sand you’re made of  

mixes with the tiny stones  

Composing my being.  

What do I do  

when the stones begin to fall too?
